  36.     Currently Samsung supports this printer with proprietary drivers which
  37.     come with the printer on its driver CD or can be downloaded on the web
  38.     sites of Samsung. Unfortunately, these drivers do not work necessarily
  39.     with all Linux distributions.<p>

  41.     As nearly all of Samsung's low-cost lasers use the same
  42.     proprietary printer language (during the time it eas called
  43.     SmartGDI, PrinThru, and SPL) on can also use a free Ghostscript
  44.     driver which Samsung published some time ago for the
  45.     ML-4500.<p>

  47.     They provided a Ghostscript RPM and an installer that adjusts Red
  48.     Hat's printtool or printconf-gui. There was also a PPD for
  49.     distros using CUPS (as Mandrake 7.2 or newer) and a possibility to
  50.     integrate the driver in SuSE's APS filters. For users of
  51.     other distributions/printing systems (especially the current
  52.     CUPS/Foomatic environments) appropriate Foomatic information is
  53.     provided here in the "gdi" driver entry.<p>

  55.     Stupidly, Samsung has named the driver "gdi". This name
  56.     is confusing, because the driver supports only Samsungs GDI
  57.     printers. SuSE has called it "samsunggdi", in ESP Ghostscript both
  58.     names can be used.<p>

  60.     The driver was removed from Samsung's website but a copy with
  61.     some improvements is available <a

  63.     ESP Ghostscript contains this driver.<p>
